Fortnite’s new game mode called “Battle Royale” is built on the core foundations of the actual standalone game Fortnite, a co-op survival sandbox game.
In Fortnite Battle Royale, 100 players are thrown into a single map. The goal of the game is to survive for as long as possible against other players and emerge as the last-man-standing, similar to games like Player Unknown’s Battleground (PUBG), and other similar games.
Unlike the PVE-focused Fortnite, Battle Royale game mode does not have any zombies, monsters, or NPC-controlled elements that will hunt the player, instead, the game is more focused on PVP where the only one that can and will harm the player is another player.
The game can be played in SOLO, Duo, or in a 4-player squad.
In order to win the game, you must either be the last person standing by defeating and outlasting everyone else in SOLO mode or defeat all the other teams and all their members in Duo and Squad modes.
To prevent the player from wandering off the map or camping on one area for far too long, a big part of the map will be off-limits to all the players, and the available area for players to roam around will get smaller and smaller after every interval. Players that will be outside the limited area will take some damage until they can no longer continue to play. The idea behind the Storm Eye Mechanic is to push every player to a small zone over the time to encourage a more PVP-centric gameplay.
Fortnite Battle Royale also features a modified crafting component which allows the players to create something more effective with the resources they’ve gathered. With the crafting mechanic, players can build defensive structures, walls, platforms, stairs, and other structures to defend an area or traverse landscape. Some materials are also stronger and provide better protection than others.
As the game starts, All the players will start off inside a flying bus that travels fast across the entire map in one single direction. During this phase, players can drop off anytime. All players will have nothing in their inventory except their default equipment (glider, harvesting tool).
Once on the ground, the essential thing to do is to gather weapons, materials, ammunition, armors, and shields. The best way to gather resources efficiently is to eliminate other players and take their items for your own – however, this comes with great risks, but it is what the game is about.
Once you got the essentials (weapons, armor, mats), it’s time to slowly head over to the Storm Eye circle or the playable zone before the timer runs out and the storm hits the ground.
There are plenty of strategies to go about winning the game, but the most basic strategy is to not get yourself killed by the storm. Avoid taking too much attention on yourself and alert other players. Just lie low, keep heading to the eye of the storm at a slow and stealthy phase, and survive for as long as you can while plucking other players one by one. Good luck survivor!
